Galway Bay fm newsroom – An animal welfare sanctuary in the county, which has been convicted of neglecting animals, has been receiving State funding for the past decade.
Last month, the founder of the East Galway Animal Rescue, Sarah Gunter from Kylebrack Loughrea, pleaded guilty to ill-treating dogs.
According to today’s Irish Examiner, EGAR has been receiving grants from the Department of Agriculture since 2003 and was awarded 4 thousand euro in 2012.
However during the court case last month, it was stated that the shelter relied on donations from the public and the owner made no money from it.
