Residents associations located nearby the Kirwan roundabout at the Menlo Park Hotel have called on council officials not to rush through plans to convert the structure to a signalised juction.

It follows a public meeting last evening attended by up to 200 people where opposition to the plans were highlighted.

A draft variation to the city development plan for the proposed changeover is now on public display.

This would see the diversion of a road from the Menlo Park Hotel grounds through to the Headford Road.

A report on the plans is set to come before councillors for a vote next month.

Peter Cunnane is spokesperson for a group of 10 local residents associations and says the upcoming conversion of the Bodkin roundabout at Galway Shopping Centre may well ease traffic flow problems.

He’s calling on councillors to wait to see the outcome of its conversion before pushing through yet another changeover.
