COUNCILLORS CLASH OVER TUAM CHAMBER
Date Published: 08-Feb-2011
The question of funding for the position of CEO at Tuam chamber of commerce has caused clashes at Tuam town council.(7/2)
At this weeks meeting of the council, two councillors engaged in heated discussion regarding the provision of funds for Sarah Roarty’s position.
Cllr Imelda Kelly said she had asked the question at a previous meeting of the town board and had done so in response to people requesting her to do so.
She said she was not questioning the work of the Chamber CEO, Sarah Roarty but merely asking if her office was funded by public funds and if so was it from Galway Co Council.
Cllr Sean Cunniffee said this was a most unfair question and he strongly objected to the Chamber CEO being questioned in what he described as a “cross examination”.
But Sarah Roarty replied that the office of CEO was seen as a pivotal role for the Chamber in Tuam as it is a hub town and she said a portion of a grant for this came from Galway County Council.
