Councillor proposes zero tolerance approach to horses in city

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A member of the city’s Joint Policing Committee is now calling for a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to horses in the city.

Councillor Terry O’ Flaherty has consistently raised the issue with the relevant authorities.

She says she has witnessed cruelty to horses on many occassions as well as the risk to public safety by housing such animals in estates or in public green areas.

Galway City Council spokesperson, Gary McMahon told a meeting of the JPC, that there are moves towards an inter-agency approach to deal with straying horses.

He also said there is the beginning of a horse project with local Traveller groups.

Councillor Terry O’ Flaherty says it’s now time for a zero-tolerance approach to wandering horses in the city.
