A group of pre-school pupils from East Galway took part in a pyjama day for autism – and they had a ball.

Even the parents got involved in the initiative which took place in Kilconnell.

There were some raised eyebrows when local councillor Timmy Broderick got involved and even turned up in his very unique set of pjs – at least the children had a laugh.

The event took place at the Young at Art pre-school which operates out of St. Gabriel’s GAA clubhouse in Kilconnell.

It was all part of the Early Childhood Ireland National Pyjama Day which took place last weekend.

All of the funds raised will be donated to the Irish Autism Action fund where the donations will go towards awareness.

Apartment from raising awareness, the monies will be devoted to the training of specialists who deal with the early childhood sector and the evaluation of the step ahead early intervention programme.

But aside from that it was a great fun day at Young at Art. The children, as well as the staff, parents and local Councillor Tim Broderick came in their pyjamas and had breakfast in bed.

Young at Art pre-school is also celebrating 20 years in operation in Kilconnell since January. The proprietor, Catherine O’Reilly would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support down through the years.

The childcare service is registered with the HSE and offers the ECCE free pre-school year for all eligible children. The staff are fully qualified and has many years of experience.

It is a ‘home from home’ where the children are nurtured and encouraged to develop independence and confidence.
