COUNCILLOR FAHY TO APPEAL CONVICTION TODAY

Galway County Councillor Michael Fahy is to challenge his conviction and sentence for the misappropriation of public money today.

He was sentenced to one year in jail and fined 75 thousand euro for seven counts of fraud and attempted theft.

The 55 year-old now independent councillor from Ardrahan was handed down a one year jail term by a Galway Circuit Court judge in march this year,

The conviction and fine followed an inquiry into the erection of council funded fencing on his farm .

He’s now serving his sentence in castlerea prison and is due for released in January next year.

Fahy’s lawyers will challenge the conviction and sentence at the court of criminal appeal today.
