COUNCILLOR FAHEY’S RETRIAL OPENS TODAY

The retrial of County Councillor Michael Fahy, who faces fraud and attempted theft charges opens later today at Galway Circuit Criminal court

The 57-year-old, was convicted by a jury in March last year following a two-week trial, held at Galway and then later at Loughrea Courthouses

Cllr. Fahy’s sentence commenced in April 3, 2007, but he walked free from prison seven months later when the Court of Criminal Appeal ruled that the conviction should be set aside, stating that evidence which it deemed inadmissible, had created a real and substantial risk of an unfair trial.
