Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is carrying out inquiries about the licensing and control of dogs in the Cashel area following the killing and maiming of sheep.

More than a half dozen sheep have been killed and maimed in the Cashel area in recent nights and it appears to have been the result of attacks by stray dogs.

Galway County Council has now moved in to ensure that all dogs in the area are accounted for and under control.

Community wardens and the dog warden are monitoring the situation in an effort to get the owners of any stray dogs to rein them in.

A check is to be carried out for dog licences in the Cashel and surrounding areas and dog owners are being asked to ensure that their animals are under effective control.

The Council says the fine for not having a dog licence is €100 and the fine for not having a dog under control is also €100.
