Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway City Council has committed to investigating the source of a sewage leak in a city housing estate.
Residents of Ballinfoile Park on the Headford Road have raised health and safety concerns over the issue.
A Ballinfoile Park resident’s group has lodged an objection to the council’s plans to undertake proposed works in the area.
At last evening’s city council meeting, councillors were asked to approve Part 8 plans for the demolition and replacement of a fire-damaged house at 59 Ballinfoile Park.
The plans also include the renovation of a former community house at 60 Ballinfoyle Park, at a total cost of around 230 thousand euro.
Councillors gave the plans the go-ahead on the condition that a full report is drawn up on the sewerage system in the area.
Councillor Billy Cameron described the current condition of the houses as a ‘blight on the community.’
Director of Services Tom Connell has agreed to meet with residents to discuss the issue.
