Galway bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is investigating the source of traces of oil which have been found under the roadway in Casla.

The oil was spotted during the initial stages of work on a new regional water scheme in south Connemara.

The MEIC company team was digging for a water scheme when they hit oil in Connemara.

Údarás na Gaeltachta had immediate extensive tests carried out in case there was any oil contamination from its Industrial Estate nearby.  However, tests results do not show any spillage or escapes of oil from the Industrial Estate.

Galway County Council is continuing its own investigation and work on the water scheme has been stopped at the area affected until the source of the oil is identified.
