From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Another attempt is to be made to refurbish the iconic Blackrock diving tower and bathing area.

Previous proposals for an overhaul of the popular swimming area were met with a wave of opposition from local residents, and users, who claimed the changes would have been destructive. But Galway City Council is to come back this year with fresh plans to refurbish the tower and bathing area.

The local authority last month advertised that it is looking to procure engineering consultancy services to “design and manage the refurbishment”.

“The works will include structural repairs to the dive tower, improved and safer accessibility to the tower and sea bathing access points, provision of new transportable lifeguard station and general improvements to facilities.

“The consultancy service must be an all-in package and incorporate all competent consultants as required so as to ensure a successful completion of the project on time and within budget,” the local authority said.
