Galway City Council has refused to comment on an allegation made by one employee of City Hall against another.

A complaint was made by a member of staff, about another member of staff, and it is understood that the complaint is being investigated, although the City Council will not confirm if an investigation is underway.

The complaint relates to alleged inappropriate behaviour of a sexual nature. Galway Gardaí have not been notified but the matter is being investigated internally.

In response to a series of questions by this newspaper about the alleged incident, the local authority said that “it is not appropriate for Galway City Council to comment in any way on the press queries herein”.

“Galway City Council does not respond to queries in relation to employment matters as it is precluded from so doing under long-established human resources, grievance and disciplinary policies and practices in force under employment legislation and in the interests of natural justice.

“It is not appropriate and has never been the practice for Galway City Council to make public comment on any internal staffing matters.”
