Galway City Council may seek extra funding to cover the cost overrun of the Seamus Quirke Road project.

A confidential meeting was held today between City Manager Joe O’Neill, Director of Services for Transport, Ciarán Hayes and the party whips.

The project had originally been costed at 12 million euro in total.

Councillor Michael Crowe claims it was revealed that the cost of the overrun lies between 5 and 6 million euro.

However, the City Council is disputing this and says no figure of an overrun can be confirmed at this stage.

A spokesperson for the Council says, if funding is needed, it may be sought from the Department of Transport or through a loan.

The City Manager also indicated the project is still expected to finish by the end of next March.
