It’s been described as ‘unfortunate’ that Galway county council is carrying out roadwork’s in Athenry on one of the busiest days in the town’s history.

15 to 20.000 people are to descend on Athenry for ‘Farmfest’- a major outdoor farming event which is taking place at the Teagasc campus a short distance from the town.

A company employed by the county council is causing major delays while working on the road in the centre of the town.

Athenry councillor and recently appointed Mayor of County Galway Peter Feeney has consulted the council area engineer to attempt to get the work stopped for the afternoon.

N6 Construction-the company building the new Galway to Ballinasloe road has ceased it’s operations for the day to accommodate the major event.
