COUNCIL CLAIMS M17 WILL BOOST JOB POTENTIAL IN GALWAY

As day two of the oral hearing into the proposed M17 motorway between Galway and Tuam draws to a close, Galway County Councilis finishing giving evidence in support of the scheme.

The hearing, chaired by An Bord Pleanala, heard from several experts employed by the Council to speak on issues such as landscape, flora and fauna and the human environment.

Qualified town planner, Ray Ryan, gave evidence earlier regarding the impact of the 200million motorway scheme on the human environment and local community.

His assessment involved informal discussions with members of the local community.

He concludes that the M17 will improve journey times and safety between Galway city and Tuam.

This he says will enhance the potential of the area to provide services, facilities and employment opportunites.

Inspector, Billy Moore will get the chance to cross examine the expert evidence given by the Council tomorrow.
