Council chooses 4 major sports facility proposals to be considered for government funding

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Four sports projects for the city have been put forward by the local authority for funding under the government’s Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund.

A special meeting of the city council took place last evening to discuss the various proposals and what project should be selected as a priority.

Councillors chose to put forward all the proposals for consideration for funding, in order of merit.

They first selected Connacht Rugby’s proposal for a major redevelopment of The Sportsground at College Road.

Second on the list is a proposal by a consortium for a world-class aqua and gym facility at Cappagh Road in Knocknacarra.

Third on the list is a project proposal by Galway Rowing Club for a water sports centre of excellence at Dyke Road.

The fourth proposal selected is a plan for a sports centre in Doughiska which would involve Renmore Gymastics.
