COUNCIL ASSESSES HOW TO MOVE DEAD WHALE FROM CONNEMARA
Date Published: 31-Dec-2007
Veterinary Personnel from Galway County Council are this afternoon assessing how to move the whale that died in Roundstone on Saturday.
It’s thought it will be a difficult operation as the 20 foot minky whale weighs over a tonne.
The minky whale was found washed up on the shore near Robinsons Wood in Letterdife on friday.
The whale was bloodied and scraped and died on Saturday
It’ s thought he was either ill, injured or both.
Wildlife experts said he wouldn’t live very long out of his natural habitat anyway so no effort was made to return him to the water.
Local County Council overseers are currently meeting with veterinary personnel but it’s thought it could be a number of days before the whale is moved.
