DUNMORE Community School secured the Connacht Senior C football championship title on Saturday in Strokestown, after a tremendous performance saw them outclass Ballinamore Community School. Carlos O’Gara’s side pulled away emphatically in the second half, posting 2-2 on the scoreboard without reply during a superb ten minute spell.

The North Galway outfit had far too much firepower for their Leitrim opponents and dominated throughout the pitch for the vast majority of this contest. Two quality points early in the game saw Dunmore CS settle into the final. Mark Connolly and Pádraig Martyn scores got them off the mark before Paul Honeyman sent over Ballinamore’s opening point at the other end.

Connolly showed great pace three minutes later to set up a good score for Colm Costello. Honeyman converted a mark at the other end to keep Ballinamore in touch. But Dunmore rattled off 1-3 without reply during the next ten minutes to firmly take control of the contest.

Costello was really catching fire up front and tallied 0-2 (one free), while Martyn converted a mark. Shortly after, Costello expertly controlled a low ball before firing first time to the back of the Ballinamore net.

Honeyman was leading the resistance at the other end and two points (one free) from the Ballinamore full forward saw them reduce the margin to five points. But Dunmore had another major score in them before half time, and when Robert Heneghan’s long delivery found Niall Heneghan at the edge of the square, the Michael Glavey’s player made no mistake in blasting to the net. It left the North Galway side ahead by 2-6 to 0-4 at half time.
