Corrib pollution 8 times limit

The water in Lough Corrib contained levels of cryptosporidium that were 60 times higher than international permissible levels according to an RTÉ 1 Radio investigative programme aired on Monday.
The claim was one of a number contained in the Lough Corrib — A Cause For Concern report, the latest edition of the Investgation on 1 radio programme.
Other claims made in the programme — which was researched by Alan Torney and presented by Philip Boucher-Hayes — included that general pollution in the lake was eight times the permissible level of that set by the Government; more than one third of the national tap water sources tested in 2005 that were ‘high risk’ or ‘very high risk’ were located in Galway; and 50% of tests taken on the lake between 2003 and 2005 showed that the water was outside the permissible limits of contamination.
