A classy second half performance from Corofin saw Kevin O’Brien’s side move through the gears when necessary to leave Caherlistrane in their wake at Tuam Stadium on Saturday.

Although Larry Bane’s side gave their neighbours plenty to think about in the second quarter in particular, Corofin’s superior scoring ability ensured Caherlistrane never got close for too long, with Dylan Wall’s goal on the stroke of half time giving them a four-point interval lead.

Caherlistrane wouldn’t stay within four for long in the second half, as the 21 times champions went into top gear after the break to pull away comprehensively. On the day, Martin Farragher’s performance was particularly eye catching, as he landed five points from play and threatened Caherlistrane throughout. Liam Silke also shone for O’Brien’s side, with his second half goal a particular highlight from Corofin’s point of view.

The 2019 champions were very sharp in the opening quarter, after which they led by 0-6 to 0-1. Jason Leonard opened the scoring, before Caherlistrane equalised through Eanna Glynn. A well worked Corofin move ended with Martin Farragher’s first point two minutes later, before Leonard pointed a free from the left wing.
