COPE GALWAY ISSUES WARNING OVER IMPACT OF BUDGET CUTS ON LOW INCOME FAMILIES
Date Published: 10-Dec-2012
Budget 2013 will have a disproportionate impact on low income families in Galway and will drive many into crisis.
That’s according to COPE Galway who provided accommodation and assistance to 374 children who were accompanied by a parent in the first 11 months of this year.
The figures released by the group today show that 108 women with 175 children were supported through the Waterside House Domestic Violence service.
74 families with 167 children were supported by Teach Corrib Homeless Day Centre and 22 women with 32 children were accommodated in Osterley Lodge Hostel for homeless women.
Martin O’Connor, Director of Services for COPE Galway says the 10 euro cut to child benefit will be a cut too far for many to take.
