Cooney’s return from Australia timely boost for Galway hurlers
ONE Galway hurling exile won’t be coming back this summer, but another is already home.
Though US-based Jonathan Glynn believes his inter-county career is over, Joseph Cooney has returned from Australia.
The Sarsfields clubman will be available to assist Galway in their quest to regain the Liam McCarthy Cup in 2020 – assuming the Covid-19 outbreak doesn’t lead to the championship being abandoned altogether.
Cooney, scorer of two points in Galway’s 2017 All-Ireland final triumph over Waterford and a versatile performer, would undoubtedly increase new manager Shane O’Neill’s options for a championship campaign which is unlikely to get underway until mid-October at the earliest.
