CONTROVERSY OVER LEGALITY OF CITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Date Published: 06-May-2011
Controversy is set to arise at a meeting of Galway City Council next week [Mon], when a matter surrounding the City Development Plan is brought up.
Acting City Manager, Joe O’ Neill, sought legal advice about a judicial review of decisions made by the Council at a meeting on January 24th last.
At that meeting, Independent Councillor, Catherine Connolly, voted on issues relating to the Development Plan, although she had been expelled from the meeting earlier.
Former Mayor of Galway, Micheal Ó hUigínn sought a judicial review of parts of the City Development Plan, particularly relating to his lands at Séamus Quirke Road.
Acting City Manager, Joe O’ Neill, is now looking for Councillors’ backing to defend the legal challenge.
Councillor Padraig Conneely says he wants more information on the legal advice.
