There were heated scenes at the Tuam Town Council meeting this week over the proposed rail link between Athenry and the town.

Several councillors questioned whether the rail link will become a reality, pointing out that no funds have been allocated for the project.

Both the Mayor and Cllr Eamon Kitt said they had positive responses from Minister Noel Dempsey about the Tuam link when he opened the Limerick-Galway line recently.

But Cllr Sean Cunniffe claimed the minister was playing a “different tune” to different people about the rail link.
