Galway Bay fm newsroom – The installation of a controversial water abstraction pipe in Connemara has been referred to An Bord Pleanála.
Fish farm operator Marine Harvest Ireland has sought clarity as to whether the structure is or is not considered as development.
The pipe was constructed in June at Loughaunore in Ardmore, Kilkieran.
Marine Harvest Ireland says it’s essential for the treatment of Ameobic Gill Disease in Salmon.
A recent planning application for the retention of the pipeline has been deemed invalid by Galway County Council.
The local authority also warned that pending a re-inspection of the site, further enforcement action will be taken if necessary.
Clarity has now been sought as to whether the pipe is considered as development or is exempted development.
An Bord Pleanála is due to make its decision in December.
