From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Construction work on a new 58-unit social housing estate in Ballybane has been delayed by several months, it has been confirmed.

The project at Rocklands Avenue is being built by Glenman Construction on behalf of Galway City Council.

It includes a mixture of four-bed, three-bed and two-bed houses, as well as duplex units and one- and two-bed apartments.

Government funding for the €10.7 million project was committed in 2018, and planning permission was secured.  It went to tender in 2019 and work commenced last year.

Galway City Council has confirmed that the contract completion date of November 2021 has now been extended into next year.

Rocklands is one of the projects which has been delayed due to the Covid-19 health pandemic which ground construction to a halt.

But it is understood that some ‘contractual issues’ have also arisen between the Council and the developer.
