CONTRACTOR HOSPITALISED FOLLOWING PROTESTS AT CLONMOYLAN BOG

A machinery contractor was hospitalised overnight after he attended protests in Clonmoylan raised bog overnight.

It followed the garda removal of turf-cutting machinery from the bog which is located just outside Woodford.

A demonstrator was also arrested and has since been released after he attempted to block the removal of the machines.

Killimor contractor, Michael Darcy, was hospitalised after he collapsed during the protest- it’s understood a digger he owned caught fire during the early hours of this morning.

Up to 250 protestors remain at the scene this morning as well as a large Garda presence and busloads of supporters have arrived in the last half an hour.
