Continued calls for end to bed closures at acute unit in Ballinasloe
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Psychiatric Nurses Association is calling for an end to the bed closures in Ballinasloe pyschiatric unit until replacement community services have been provided.
The phased closure of the 22-bed unit at St. Brigid’s Hospital began on Monday with the transfer of five beds to the acute psychiatric unit at UHG in the city.
A protest was also held in the city demanding a rethink of the reconfiguration plans.
The PNA argues that the HSE decision runs contrary to commitments made in the national ‘Vision for Change’ document.
Group spokesperson Michael Hayes says the HSE needs to invest in extensive community services in the region.
