Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Construction Industry Federation says major costs in building houses such as part 8 contributions need to be reduced to address the shortage in the city.

The housing agency reports over 26 hundred residential units need to be built in the next 4 years to support the population.

On the national front, over 80 thousand units are needed in urban areas across the country over the next 5 years.

37-thousand are required in Dublin alone in order to keep up with the population growth.

It’s also predicted that nearly 1-thousand 500 will be needed each year for Cork City and suburbs over the next 4 years.

The CIF Director General Tom Parlon explains some of the main hurdles.
