Connemara’s Cupid delivers food of love
An innovative family business in the heart of Connemara will again play Cupid this Valentine’s Day – by delivering fresh oysters…otherwise known as the food of love!
DK Connemara Oysters will deliver fresh oysters from Letterfrack ‘to your letterbox anywhere in Ireland’, according to David Keane, who heads up the family-run business based in Ballinakill Bay, at the gateway to Connemara National Park.
“We have put together an attractive package which makes it easy for oyster lovers or those who want to experiment with oysters for the first time to order them online and we can then deliver the fresh oysters to anywhere in Ireland twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays,” he said.
“The oysters are not just healthy and great fun but really great value at €30 for two dozen, with free shipping across the country. You just add a touch of romance – and the rest is up to yourself,” he added.
David is the latest in the centuries-old oyster cultivation tradition in Connemara; the licence for these oyster beds dates to Mitchell Henry in 1893 when it was part of the Kylemore Estate.
There was a time when these oysters were taken from Ballinakill Bay in Connemara to the railhead in Clifden before being despatched on the mail boat out of the North Wall in Dublin for the consumption of the connoisseurs and polite society in London.
Today, they can be delivered from Letterfrack to your letterbox for Valentine’s weekend.
“We got lovely feedback last year from people who ordered oysters for delivery to their home for Valentine’s and it’s great that they can relish that again this February over the Valentine’s weekend in their favourite restaurant, or for a date night at home,” said David.
The final dispatch date for Valentine’s weekend delivery is Wednesday, February 9. You can order from www.dkconnemaraoysters.com
