Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council has confirmed that oil traces found under a Connemara road are a result of soil contamination.

The oil was spotted deep in the road in the Casla area between Derrynea crossroads and Carraroe by contractors laying pipes for a local water scheme.

Samples have been sent away for analysis.

A spokesperson for Galway County Council told Galway Bay fm news that tests are being carried to out determine the source and extent of the contamination.

Contractors working on the water scheme on the Carraroe Road have skipped a short section of the pipeline until the source of the contamination is known.
