CONNEMARA MOTHER TO HAVE SON HONOURED IN NEW YORK

A Connemara emigrant in New York will today be presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage on behalf of her son who was killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Galway native and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore will present the certificate to Bridget Hunter on behalf of her son Joseph Hunter at his fire station in Maspeth, Queens, this evening.

Mrs Hunter maintains a permanent shrine to her firefighter son on Mauméin in the Connemara mountains.

The Certificate notes Joseph is the descendant of two uncles from County Galway.

Hunter’s certificate is the first issued by the Government to the Irish diaspora.
