CONNEMARA GORSE FIRES THREATEN HOMES AND BUSINESSES

Fires in the Connemara area are posing a real risk to homes, businesses and farms.

Over the last three days, there have been several large gorse fires which have raged in south west Connemara, destroying the landscape and threatening wildlife.

The fires have been worsened by the spell of fine dry weather and can spread quickly.

Concern is mounting among local residents about the costs associated with the council fire services who have had to be called to deal with the fires.
