A grandson of Connemara emigrants is a frontrunner for the position of Mayor of Boston.

Michael F. Flaherty is challenging the present Mayor Thomas Menino for the prestigious job of Mayor of the Massachussetts capital in the November election.

There’s a long tradition of Irish Mayors in Boston – some of the best known of whom had Galway ancestry – but that link has been broken for almost 20 years.
