A Connemara timber frame house company is to provide social-housing in the UK.

TTA Teoranta in Rosmuc was set-up in 2005 with assistance from Udaras na Gaeltachta, to build houses that fight against global warming.

This weekend it will ship the first energy-saving & conservation ‘Passive Houses’ to the city of York for the Housing Association

The houses are designed on extra insulation, and use solar panels and a mechanical recovery system for heat, hot water and fresh air.

From the 1st of July, all new dwellings seeking planning in Ireland have to cut energy costs by 40% and carbon emissions by 40%.

The Passive Houses scheme is already ahead of this target and for a small house, it can cost less than €30 a year to run the heat recovery system.

TTA Teoranta Rosmuc has 14 full-time employees but founder Vincent Joyce says more jobs are now on the cards.
