Communities in Connemara are vowing to keep the pressure on for a new community school in Clifden.

Around 13 primary schools around Connemara feed into Clifden Community school, which currently caters for 450 students, despite the fact it has a capacity for 250.

Plans were submitted for the new building 15 years ago, however they are still in the pre-planning stage of the process.

A new group ‘the Community school initiative group’ held a meeting in Clifden last evening with locals, parents and elected representatives.

Over 300 people attended and listened to submissions on the future of the school.

A number of Portacabins are in place on the school grounds and students are forced to wear heavy jumpers in Winter to keep warm.

Brendan Madden of the Community school initiative group says that the Connemara community is determined to keep the pressure on for a new school building
