Conneely leads Galway FC’s dismantling of table toppers
ON the day the FAI formally sought expressions of interest from clubs to play in next season’s First Division, Galway FC outlined their intention to ply their trade in the top flight in 2015 with a dismantling of League leaders Shelbourne in Tolka Park on Friday night.
There may have been criticism of the side in the recent weeks in relation to performances and results, but that was only because they were capable of better than what they were producing. Friday night showed that in no uncertain terms.
Galway FC traded on parity in an entertaining first half – and indeed, twice took the lead – but they assumed complete control in the second half and were comfortable winners against a side that had been unbeaten at home in the league.
“Tonight was brilliant, I’d just like to congratulate the lads for their work rate and their effort from the start of the season until now and if they keep that up then they’ll be giving themselves every opportunity to do well this season.
“I thought the support were brilliant as well, getting behind the team from start to finish – we needed that and they were able to pull the lads along when they were feeling the pinch. It was a gutsy performance, I’m just delighted with them,” Tommy Dunne said after the game.
