Connacht’s 100-times capped All-Black full back Mils Muliaina was arrested by police in Gloucester tonight on suspicion of sexual assault.

The incident allegedly took place in Cardiff last month.

The arrest at Kingsholm Stadium came following Connacht’s 7-14 defeat.

A Gloucestershire police spokesperson confirmed a man in his 30s was arrested at the stadium on suspicion of sexual assault in relation to an incident in Cardiff in last month.

The matter is being dealt with by South Wales Police.

Team officials have refused to comment on the arrest.

Muliaina had started the game but retired with a recurrence of his hamstring injury during the first half.

Connacht Tribune Rugby Correspondent Rob Murphy said: “The Connacht spokesperson have said they have no comment to make on tonight’s incident and no information on what happened.

“There is a general sense of shock here in press room and Connacht officials seem as stunned as we are. Pat Lam spoke but took no question on incident,” Rob said.

Connacht were in the Welsh capital on March 6, where they played Cardiff Blues.
