CONNACHT missed a golden opportunity at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Sunday. They took on an Ospreys side without 16 first choice players and pretty much dominated the contest in terms of possession and territory, but only had one late consolation try to show for it.
In the end, the trip proved quite literally to be another pointless expedition as, once again, even a losing bonus point proved beyond the western province. The performance was an immense improvement on previous trips to Wales this season, but this young Ospreys second-string side wouldn’t match up with the best the Blues or Scarlets have to offer.
Dreadful defence early on had Connacht trailing by seven thanks to Jonathan Spratt’s try, but they found their feet and dominated the Ospreys lineout for the remainder of the half and were on top at the breakdown thanks in no small part to man of the match, John Muldoon. The Connacht captain was at his abrasive powerful best throughout, but ultimately to no avail.
