Connacht out half Carty in race to be fit for home league clash with Munster

Connacht’s Jack Carty who is doubtful for Saturday's home meeting with Munster due to a foot injury.

THE in-form Jack Carty has emerged as a doubt for Connacht’s big clash with Munster at the Sportsground (5.15pm) on New Year’s Day due to a foot injury.

The 29-year-old out half is struggling to shake off the injury picked up during Connacht’s Champions Cup lobe handed the number 10 jersey.

“We are still looking at Jack,” says Connacht Head Coach Andy Friend. “He ran today and ran well, so let’s see how he pulls up, but the form he is in at the moment, you’d love to have him involved.”

Connacht also have limited resources at scrumhalf where Kieran Marmion is the only fully fit regular. Caolin Blade – along with backrow Sean Masterson and fullback Oran McNulty – are all doubtful due to illness.

In addition, centre Peter Robb has suffered a shoulder injury in training, while hooker Dylan Tierney Martin’s ankle injury will keep him sidelined for four months.

However, there is some good news with the possible availability of Aussie pair Mack Hansen (calf) and Ben O’Donnell (illness), and backrow Paul Boyle (shoulder/Achilles), who have all returned to training this week.
