Connacht clip Ospreys’ wing

THE season is over and good riddance to it. Another one for the scrap heap but at least this time there wasn’t the usual string of meaningless games to end the campaign. Just the one and sure enough Connacht produced the type of rugby that was sorely missing in the previous eight months.
They won with three tries created and finished by backline players. That doubled their total for the Magners League season from the back division. At times the rugby was superb on Friday night from Andy Dunes ingenious pass for Keith Matthews’ second try to Gavin Duffy’s break for the centre’s first, but for the most part this was very much an end of season rugby affair with little at stake.
Before kick off, the Irish summer squads had been confirmed with a mere three Connacht players involved. Duffy with the senior and Matthews and O’Connor with the A panel It was a depressing outcome and sums up the last eight months for professional rugby in the west. No place for the likes of Andrew Farley, Daniel Riordan, Aidan Wynne or John Muldoon.
