CONFIRMATION THAT TUAM TO CLAREMORRIS RAIL LINK TO BE PUT ON HOLD

The government has confirmed that funding is not being provided for the Western Rail Corridor directly in the revised capital investment programme

As a result the Claremorris to Tuam line is being put on hold, which in turn means the rail link from Galway to Sligo is on hold, a major part of the Western Rail Corridor

The Department of Transport is expected to set out its priorities today or later this week.

They say that planning will continue for all major rail projects – but anything that’s not currently under construction will not begin.
