Concerns have been raised that new signage on city taxis may mean taxi driver’s homes are being targetted for break-ins.

The branding which is being phased into the national taxi fleet since January contains the individual vehicle licence number associated with a particular vehicle and the ‘Transport for Ireland’ logo.

Galway West Sinn Fein Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh told this week’s city Joint Policing Committee meeting that several concerns have been raised with him that fixed signage makes taxi drivers more of a target.

Garda Superintendent Marie Skehill told the meeting that there was no evidence to suggest the injured parties for recent burglaries were taxi drivers.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Senator O’Clochartaigh says drivers are concerned about their homes and families.
