CONCERN OVER IMPACT OF HOSPITAL BUDGET CUTS IN GALWAY
Date Published: 15-Jan-2008
There’s been a call for a report to be published detailing the inefficiencies at two Galway hospitals.
It was announced yesterday that Merlin Park Hospital and University Hospital Galway are both to have their annual budgets cut by a quarter of a million euro.
The cuts are part of a scheme implemented by the Department of Health which rewards or penalises hospitals based on their efficiency levels.
Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe was the only Galway hospital to have it’s budget increased, receiving over 42 thousand euro.
City Councillor Padraig Conneely wants HSE West Hospital Manager Alan Moran to explain how these inefficiencies happened.
Meanwhile all elective surgery at UHG has been deferred as the crisis at its A and E department escalates again.
