Concerns have been raised over the future of the Aran Islands’ air service.

Galway West Deputy Eamon O’Cuiv has raised the issue with Minister Dinny McGinley and has queried whether the government is considering cutting off state support for the service.

The current contract finishes in August of next year and a decision is to be made in the coming months on whether there will be a tender process for a new contract.

Deputy O Cuiv says the service provides a lifeline for the island community and must be protected from cutbacks during this consideration process.
