A Labour spokesman has rejected comments by Galway East TD Colm Keaveney that the party is about to set up a “kangaroo court” to remove his membership.

Deputy Keaveney lost the party whip when he voted against social welfare cuts in the budget but still remains as party chairman

The Tuam based TD says there are suggestions that in order to remove him as chairman the party would have to remove his membership

Deputy Keaveney says it would be poor judgment by Eamon Gilmore to underestimate the democratic primacy of grassroots members.”

However a Labour spokesman says the suggestion is “entirely without foundation”.
