Clonbur meeting to formally close VEC structure

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The existing VEC structure is to be formally closed at a special meeting in Clonbur on Friday (June 28).

The meeting of County Galway Vocational Education Comittee takes place in Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre where County Mayor Liam Carroll will also turn the sod for new facilities there.

After Friday’s ceremonial closure, the county and city VECs are then to merge with Roscommon to form the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board.

In 2014, FAS is also due to merge into the group.

Outgoing CEO of County Galway VEC Joe McDonagh is to move to the Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board.

Galway city native David Leahy will take up the post of CEO of the newly formed Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board, moving from his post as head of North Tipperary VEC.

All boards are to be established by next Monday July 1st.

The Clonbur meeting gets underway at 2 on Friday afternoon.
