CLLRS VOTE TO EXTINGUISH TUAM RIGHT OF WAY
Date Published: 27-Nov-2012
One of the most contentious issues in the Tuam area in many years reached another stage last evening (Nov 26) when County Councillors voted to extinguish a long standing public right-of-way in the Palace Grounds area.
However, it was agreed that an alternative public right-of-way would be provided close to the original right-of-way in question in Tuam.
Cllr Sean Cunniffe raised several issues in regard to the extinguishment of the right of way including the safety of children and he referred to the safety issue in light of the number of people who use a carpark at the location.
Council Engineer Liam Gavin told the meeting that safety concerns had been fully addressed in his report and that he was satisfied with the alternatives being proposed.
26 Cllrs voted in favour of the extinguishment of the right of way with 3 abstentions.
