Cllrs have voted to defer a decision on the disposal of land at Bishop Street in Tuam and to extinguish a public Right of Way.

It followed lengthly discussion when the matters came before last evening’s meeting of the local authority where a group of up to 50 protestors greeted members as they entered the chamber.

The "Restore Our Palace Road" campaign group called on councillors to reject a proposal to hand over the public road and to also reject the proposed extinguishment of the right of way due to safety concerns.

After lenghtly debate on the issue and two adjournments, it was decided to defer the matter until November’s meeting.

Cllr Michael Connolly, Chair of the Tuam Electoral Area Committee says he’s confident a compromise can now be reached by all sides which will see a solution provided to any current safety concerns.
