Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Ballinasloe Area Cllr is calling on the owners of Barna Waste to reconsider a decision to relocate its Aughrim office.

Cllr Dermot Connolly says the decision is a huge blow for the area and has contacted the firm to discuss any alternative options.

Barna Waste has now begun a consultation process with staff following the decision which will see it relocate its customer service office in Aughrim to its HQ on at Carrowbrowne on the Headford Road.

Talks are now underway with the 10 staff, 1 full time and 9 part time, at the Aughrim base.

Cognito Asset Management limited recently completed a buyout of Barna Waste and recycling which employs 250 people in the West and Midlands.

The company says it has carried out a strategic review of operations and identified a number of improvements to provide a more effective customer service and communications system.

Cllr Dermot Connolly says while the redeployment of some staff is welcome, the winding down of the Aughrim base is a serious concern for the rural area.
